What is Scorecast?
Scorecast is a simple system that allows you to forecast sports games results with friends. Scorecast is in no way an online betting system: Scorecast does not publish any odds, nor does it reward in any form good forecasts. Scorecast simply allows you to challenge your friends, colleagues or family in guessing the results of sports games.
By creating a private competition that only the persons you choose can join, each player will be able to:
- enter his forecast for every game of the competition
- check the competition standings after each completed game
- chat with the other users of the competition in a dedicated message board
Check the demo competition for more details.
What's next?
If you want to create a competition and invite friends to join, simply create a new Scorecast account and click on Create a competition in the Competitions menu at the top of the page. A unique token for your competition will be issued that you will be able to communicate to the people you want to join.
If you have been emailed a competition token, create a new Scorecast account, click Join a competition in the Competitions menu at the top of the page and enter the token. If the competition creator did his job well, he may also have emailed you website address (Url) that will automatically join the competition once you have created your account.
Nothing prevents you from playing in multiple competitions at the same time so if you have been invited to join a competition by one friend but want to also play with another group of friends or your colleagues, you can in turn create your own competition!
How can I be notified about the updates made to my Scorecast competitions?
EmailFor each competition, you can setup the email notification mode. Scorecast offers three options:
- Disable all email notifications
- Get one notification at the end of each match with updated standings
- Get one daily notification containing score and updated standings for all the matches that took place during the last day
You can easily change your option by clicking the link located on your homepage below the name of each competition. You can also activate reminder emails in your profile in case you forgot to enter your forecasts for matches that are going to start in the next 48 hours.
CalendarIntegrate the calendar of your competitions in your favorite agenda application. Be it Google Agenda, Microsoft Outlook (2007 version only), Mozilla Sunderbird or its Thunderbird integration Lightning, Scorecast allows you to export calendars in the widely supported iCal file format.
Copy the calendar URL found in the Standings page of each competition and paste it in your agenda application! You may also try to click on the calendar link: depending on your installed applications, it may be directly integrated in your agenda.
RSSIf you are used to read blogs or news sites using RSS feeds using softwares such as Google Reader then know that Scorecast also offers standings updates as syndicated content using RSS. In the Standings page of each competition, you'll find a RSS icon. Click on it and add the RSS feed of the competition to your favorite RSS reader. You can follow as many competitions as you like: each one is provided through its own RSS feed.
WidgetIf you manage your own website and want to display the standings of your competitions, you can easily include in your homepage one simple line of HTML code to display them without breaking your page layout. Ask the competition creator to give you the HTML code he'll find in the competition administration page.
FacebookFacebook users, display Scorecast in your profile! Simply add the Scorecast Facebook application to your profile and display the standings of each competition you participate to. Enter your Scorecast username and password in our Facebook application and you are ready to go!
TwitterTwitter is the ultimate way to get information on your competitions. By following the Twitter feed of a competition you'll know everything: latest messages posted on the board, live match scores updates and of course standings updates at the end of each match. If you have done so already, signup for a Twitter account, and follow the feeds of your competitions.
For this, click on the Twitter icon located at the bottom of the Standings page of the competition you want to get updated on. Your browser will be redirected to the Twitter page of the competition: click on Follow. Do not hesitate to install twhirl to follow the Twitter feeds directly on your PC. If you configure Twitter properly you can even get all the news on your mobile phone via their free SMS service!
You can also follow the global Scorecast Twitter feed to get live score updates and Scorecast news only (available in French only).
NB: Twitter features require that the creator of a competition has enabled and configured the Twitter option. If he has not done it do not hesitate to ask him to do so!
